Studio Cinema, known originally as ‘Studio A’, is an independent two-screen cinema with a team of 7 based in Dunoon.
Opening as a single screen cinema in a purpose-built building in the early 70’s. By 1980 it had been divided into two screens and has a seating capacity of 168 in screen ‘A’, and 70 in screen ‘B’. Originally shown movies from a Film projector (typically 35mm) and only opening seasonally Studio Cinema has come a long way since then and is a fully Digital film theatre open 7 days a week.
In 2013, the first Dunoon Film Festival was held over three days and opened with first public screening of Your Cheatin’ Heart, a series made by the BBC that had last been shown on television in 1990. The Dunoon Film Festival yearly has grown to be one of the best attended events in Argyll and Bute.
We show all of the major Hollywood films to entertain our family and younger customers. We also try to cater for all ages and tastes with appropriate films and have also introduced our programme of Live Events in 2014, streaming live theatre, concerts, opera and ballet directly into our cinema.
In 2019, our cinema went under refurbishment. Our halls are equipped with brand new screens, state-of-the-art sound systems and a fresh lick of paint. Also we are delighted to have disabled access into both screens and also a fully accessible toilet including a baby-changing area.
